A spirit broom is a traditional tool used in some spiritual practices to cleanse and purify a space or person to sweep away jinxes and other forms of negative energy.
It is typically made from natural materials like wood, straw, or feathers, and can be used in combination with herbs or incense during a cleansing ritual.
How to use a broom?
Say you had a neighbor that came to your house that you didn’t care for or someone that came to your house that you don’t want to return. You can sprinkle salt on the ground and sweep behind them. This use of the broom is to clear away something or energies. It’s really good for luck also. In African American traditions, people have used the broom for marriage which really comes from many West African traditions. Because of these traditions when a couple jumps the broom in a wedding it is to bring good luck to the marriage.
In more modern aspects of Hoodoo, workers would fix a broom by attaching different kinds of herbs such as lavender, rosemary, oregano, and tarragon or whatever herbs they wanted even poisonous herbs. Some workers have fixed a broom with healing herbs and passed it over people who are ill or put it under their bed.
